Birmingham Heartlands Hospital - thoracic surgery (inc. HDU)

Extra experience at Heartlands with medical staff:

  • Observed a video-assisted thoracotomy and lobectomy in theatre
  • Performed manual hyperinflation ("bagging") under supervision of anaesthetist
  • Assisted SHO with intercostal drain insertion
  • Participated in thoracic surgery practical - I was the only student permitted
